The progress of three upcoming projects of Hindustan Urvarak & Rasayan Limited (HURL) at Gorakhpur, Barauni and Sindri was reviewed by Union Minister of Chemicals and Fertilisers Sadananda Gowda on Aug 11, 2020.
In a brief presentation to show the progress of the three projects, Arun Kumar Gupta, MD, HURL said that work on the Gorakhpur, Sindri and Barurani projects have so far been completed by 80 per cent, 74 per cent and 73 per cent, respectively. However, the projects have been affected due to lockdown, travel restrictions and unavailability of laborers among other reasons.
Situation has now improved and sufficient manpower, although lesser by 20 per cent before COVID-19 pandemic affected the country, has been mobilized to resume the work at all three sites. Although there could be delay in commissioning by five to six months from scheduled deadline, he assured that all the three projects would be commissioned by end of the next year.
The minister suggested that video conferencing may be used to connect with consultants from foreign countries as travel restriction is expected to continue for some time. Domestic capacity would increase by 38.1 Lakh MT when the three projects are commissioned.
