Union Minister Ram Nath Thakur unveils ICAR-CIFT–backed startup innovations in value-added foods

Unveiled a new set of startup-led food innovations developed with technical support from the ICAR–Central Institute of Fisheries Technology (ICAR-CIFT), underlining the government’s push to commercialise agri-food research and strengthen entrepreneurship in the fisheries and food processing sector

The product launches took place at the ICAR–Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (ICAR-CMFRI) campus and were attended by senior ICAR scientists, including Dr. George Ninan and Dr. C.O. Mohan.

Among the key launches was Collagen Honey Peanut Butter, developed by Parayil Biofarm Pvt. Ltd., a functional food product that blends high-quality peanuts with collagen to address growing consumer demand for nutrition supporting joint mobility, digestive health, and muscle recovery. The formulation contains no added sugar, preservatives, or artificial ingredients, positioning it squarely within the clean-label, wellness-focused food segment.

Also unveiled were ready-to-eat food products from Fudcy Foods, manufactured using retort processing technology. Designed for extended shelf life without chemical preservatives, the products retain nutritional integrity and sensory quality while remaining stable at ambient temperatures—an increasingly important attribute for modern food supply chains and institutional catering.

The showcase reinforced ICAR-CIFT’s role as a bridge between laboratory research and market-ready innovation, particularly in value-added foods, processing technologies, and entrepreneurship support. By enabling startups to translate scientific expertise into scalable consumer products, the institute continues to contribute to food innovation, nutrition security, and enterprise development in India’s agri-food ecosystem.
