Fortified wheat flour makes its Gujarat debut: Industry steps up to combat malnutrition

Seven new fortified wheat flour brands have been launched in Ahmedabad, marking a significant step in India’s ongoing efforts to combat malnutrition and Anaemia. The brands — Radhe Makhan (Bhavya Food Products), Madhvan Bhog (Riddhi Siddhi Grain Processing), Rajbhog (Radhaji Proteins), RajShree (Giriraj Food Industry), Rohini Gold (Rohini Pulses & Foods), Zam-Zam, Muskan, Shudh (Fortune Proteins), and Lalwani Harry’s Chakki Atta (Bright Star Foods) — are now available across open markets in Gujarat.

The initiative is part of a broader effort by Millers for Nutrition, India, to integrate essential micronutrients such as iron, folic acid, and Vitamin B12 into everyday staples like wheat flour. By providing technical support, quality assurance, and market insights to millers, the program aims to make fortification not just a public health intervention but also a viable business opportunity.

The launch underscores the role of the food industry in addressing India’s nutritional challenges. By fortifying widely consumed staples, the initiative seeks to ensure that essential nutrients reach a larger number of households, contributing to stronger, healthier communities. The Gujarat rollout is expected to serve as a model for scaling fortified foods across other regions, aligning business objectives with national health goals and strengthening India’s fight against malnutrition.
