In a bold move to place bamboo at the center of India’s green economy, the International Bamboo Summit will be held in Mumbai on September 18–19, uniting global experts, entrepreneurs, researchers, and policymakers to chart the future of bamboo-based industries.
Co-organized by the Phoenix Foundation and Maharashtra’s MITRA think tank, the two-day summit will commemorate International Bamboo Day with the signing of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) worth Rs 20,000 crore, designed to fast-track investments into bamboo’s industrial, environmental, and commercial applications.
The agenda will spotlight bamboo’s role in carbon sequestration, bamboo-based ethanol production, engineered timber for sustainable construction, and green urban development. By focusing on bamboo’s potential as both an economic driver and a climate solution, the summit aims to accelerate rural livelihoods, enhance climate resilience, and integrate bamboo into mainstream market supply chains.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, senior policymakers, and institutional investors, will examine policy reforms, financing models, and entrepreneurship opportunities across the bamboo value chain. The event will conclude with a roundtable on policy harmonization and market creation to ensure bamboo’s scalable integration into India’s bioeconomy.
By aligning industrial innovation with environmental imperatives, the International Bamboo Summit is set to position India as a global leader in bamboo value chain development, paving the way for a new era of carbon-smart and inclusive economic growth.
