SugaROx targets UK, EU and U.S. markets after £1 Mn investment round

SugaROx, the UK-based agri-biotech venture pioneering precision biostimulants, has closed a £1 million seed round extension to accelerate the development and field testing of its novel crop technologies. The round includes a £400,000 strategic investment from The Mosaic Company, one of the world’s largest fertilizer producers, alongside £600,000 from existing backers Future Planet Capital, Regenerate Ventures, and UK-based angel investors.

The financing builds on a £2.4 million Innovate UK grant awarded in 2024, which enabled SugaROx to scale manufacturing of its first active ingredient, Trehalose-6-Phosphate (T6P). The proprietary molecule is designed to increase crop yield and resilience by regulating SnRK1, a key enzyme that signals energy scarcity in plants. Safety tests completed in early 2024 confirmed a positive regulatory outlook, triggering strong interest from industry partners and demand for trial-scale samples.

Mosaic’s participation gives SugaROx access to its established U.S. trial network and the TruResponse® digital platform, which will be used to visualize and validate field performance data across multiple geographies. This partnership positions SugaROx to accelerate proof-of-performance at commercial scale.

SugaROx is targeting the UK wheat market by 2027 and the EU by 2028, with field trials already underway in soybean and maize to pave entry into the U.S. and Brazilian markets, two of the world’s largest agricultural economies.

With biostimulants growing at an estimated 11 percent CAGR globally, the seed extension marks a pivotal step for SugaROx in advancing science-based solutions that align with agriculture’s shift toward climate resilience and sustainable productivity.
