Uttarakhand kicks off ‘Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan’ under CM Dhami’s leadership

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami inaugurated the “Developed Agriculture Resolution Campaign” in Gunjyal village, Dehradun, on Thursday. He announced that agricultural scientists and officials would engage directly with farmers across Uttarakhand, covering all 95 development blocks, 670 Nyaya Panchayats, and 11,440 villages

In a significant stride toward advancing agricultural growth and empowering farmers across the state, Pushkar Singh Dhami officially launched the “Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan” (Developed Agriculture Resolution Campaign) today in Gunjyal village, Dehradun. The launch marks Uttarakhand’s robust participation in a nationwide agricultural outreach initiative led by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Government of India.

The campaign, which will run from May 29 to June 12, 2025, aims to disseminate critical knowledge on modern farming techniques, climate-resilient agriculture, and government welfare schemes directly to farmers at the grassroots level.

Speaking at the launch event, CM Dhami highlighted the vital role that farmers play in the state’s economy and food security. “Uttarakhand is committed to transforming agriculture into a resilient, tech-enabled, and high-income sector. The ‘Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan’ is a timely initiative to bridge the gap between scientific research and traditional farming. Our goal is to ensure that every farmer has access to the tools, knowledge, and resources needed to thrive in the face of changing climatic conditions and market demands,” he stated.

Statewide Outreach and Implementation
The campaign will be carried out across all 95 development blocks, 670 Nyaya Panchayats, and 11,440 villages in Uttarakhand. Under this initiative: Teams of agricultural scientists, Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) officials, and trained extension workers will conduct interactive sessions with farmers; three expert teams per district will organize daily outreach events, collectively engaging over 600 farmers per day per district; nationally, the campaign aims to connect with over 1.5 crore farmers through 2,000+ scientific teams working across 700 districts.

These sessions will focus on topics such as: Adoption of climate-smart agriculture techniques; introduction to new seed varieties; use of soil health cards and testing for crop planning; accessing subsidies and incentives under state and central agricultural, horticultural, and animal husbandry schemes; safe and sustainable pesticide use, organic farming, and post-harvest management. In addition to training, feedback will be collected from farmers to incorporate their traditional knowledge and practical experiences into ongoing scientific research and future agricultural planning.

Key Farmer Welfare Measures Announced-
Chief Minister Dhami also announced a series of comprehensive measures to support farmers and promote sustainable agriculture in Uttarakhand:

Interest-free loans up to Rs 3 lakh for farmers through cooperative banks; subsidies up to 80 per cent under the Farm Machinery Bank Scheme to promote mechanization among small and marginal farmers; bonuses on wheat procurement and a hike in sugarcane purchase price; free canal irrigation across the state to reduce input costs; conversion of state-owned tea gardens into certified organic estates; development of six aroma valleys to encourage the cultivation of aromatic and medicinal plants.

An allocation of Rs 200 crore for the construction of polyhouses, promoting protected cultivation and improved yields

A Vision for Self-Reliant Agriculture
CM Dhami reiterated that the campaign is aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Viksit Bharat” (Developed India) by 2047, where agriculture plays a central role in achieving national self-reliance and economic strength.

Public Participation and Farmer Mobilization
The state government urges farmer producer organizations (FPOs), panchayati raj institutions, cooperative societies, and self-help groups to participate actively in the campaign. Local agricultural officers have been instructed to ensure that marginalized, small, and women farmers are reached effectively.

The campaign also encourages the use of digital platforms and mobile-based agricultural advisory services, enabling farmers to stay informed beyond the campaign period.
