Nufarm and ChrysaLabs partner to address barriers in carbon innovation measurement

Nufarm is pleased to announce a partnership with ChrysaLabs, a leading provider of soil data, insights, and carbon measurement, to help quantify the soil carbon sequestration benefits from expanding Carinata cultivation in South America. Carinata plays a vital role in Nufarm’s bioenergy strategy by supplying renewable biofuel feedstocks for producing low-carbon fuels and materials, particularly for hard-to-decarbonize industries like aviation. This collaboration will introduce a new method for accurately measuring and verifying soil carbon storage, combining enhanced farming practices with crop rotations that feature Nufarm Carinata as a cover or intermediate crop planted between main growing seasons

ChrysaLabs provides a comprehensive solution for carbon measurement, verification, and project management, aiming to significantly reduce costs and enable true scalability—an uncommon achievement in the carbon credit market. Its cutting-edge Direct Contact Proximal Sensing technology, combined with a flexible, project-specific approach, ensures accurate tracking, validation, and monetization of all stages of the carbon cycle.

Nufarm’s upcoming expansion will focus on utilizing vast areas of land well-suited for intermediate cover crops like Carinata. By growing Nufarm Carinata for biofuel, the initiative aims to establish a closed-loop carbon cycle—capturing atmospheric carbon and storing it in soil while generating tangible climate benefits.

“Nufarm is focused on advancing sustainability in the biofuel sector by creating solutions that cut emissions and deliver new income opportunities for farmers,” said Brent Zacharias, Group Executive of Nufarm Seed Technologies. “Through our partnership with ChrysaLabs, we can ensure that the carbon benefits of our Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) initiatives are accurately measured and validated, supporting our dedication to meaningful and responsible innovation.”

“This collaboration marks a breakthrough in carbon modeling and opens the door for scalable biofuel ventures,” added Samuel Fournier, CEO and Co-founder of ChrysaLabs. “By offering complete carbon project services, we lower financial and logistical hurdles, making it easier to connect sustainability goals with economic returns.”

Beyond its direct impact on renewable fuels, the initiative showcases how ChrysaLabs’ data-centric model can align environmental responsibility with new income streams through large-scale carbon monetization. Certified under major standards like the EU’s Renewable Energy Directive, CORSIA for aviation, and the Roundtable for Sustainable Biomaterials, Nufarm’s bioenergy efforts provide reliable and transparent sustainability assurances. These certifications help airlines and corporations confidently report emission reductions that support their Scope 1 and Scope 3 climate goals.
