ICAR holds discussions on animal genetic resources in Maharashtra

Experts stress the utmost need for characterising the native AnGR of Maharashtra in collaboration with all the state and central agencies

The ICAR-National Bureau of Animal Genetic Resources, Karnal, Haryana virtually organised its 3rd Interface Meet on ’AnGR of Maharashtra State: A Mission towards Zero Non-Descript AnGR of India.’

The Chief Guest, Col (Dr) AM Paturkar, Vice-Chancellor, Maharashtra Animal & Fishery Sciences University, Nagpur, Maharashtra stressed the utmost need for characterising the native AnGR of Maharashtra in collaboration with all the state and central agencies.

SP Singh, Commissioner of Animal Husbandry, Government of Maharashtra highlighted the need for conserving and improving the native AnGR in the state. He also urged for the participation of the various stakeholders.

Dr VK Saxena, ADG (AP&B), ICAR accentuated on documenting the native germplasm with pastoral communities that are the true custodian of breeds.

Earlier, delivering the welcome address, Dr BP Mishra, Director, ICAR-NBAGR, Karnal highlighted the Bureau’s achievements with further envisioning for the Mission towards Zero Non-Descript AnGR.

Around 125 participants from the Department of Animal Husbandry, Government of Maharashtra: state agricultural universities, ICAR institutes and NGOs participated in the meet.
