Discussions were held on adopting good agricultural practices for the production of basmati rice
PAU, Farm Advisory Service Centre, Tarn Taran in collaboration with Basmati Export Development Foundation (BEDF) recently organised a workshop on ’Safe and Judicious use of pesticides and adoption of good agricultural practices for production of Basmati Rice’ on September 3, 2021 mat Algon Kothi (Bhikhiwind) Tarn Taran.
Dr Parvinder Singh, Incharge, FASC, Tarn Taran welcomed the farmers and resource persons from Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana. He highlighted the importance of the workshop for basmati growers of this border belt and the role of FASC, Tarn Taran in the production of residue-free basmati in the district.
Dr GS Buttar, Additional Director of Extension Education, PAU, Ludhiana, Chief Guest of the function while addressing farmers highlighted the extension activities being carried out by the university scientists and advised the farmers about the cultivation of Basmati rice. He suggested the farmers not to use unrecommended pesticides in Basmati crop. He also appealed to the farmers to attend such workshops in large numbers so that they are benefited.
Dr PPS Pannu, Additional Director of Research (NR&PHM) PAU, Ludhiana, attended the programme as a guest of honour and stressed the farmers to produce pesticide-free basmati by using judicious use of pesticides. He advised the farmers that they should grow recommended varieties of PAU, Ludhiana. He also addressed the queries of the farmers of the area.
Dr Amarjit Singh, Senior Extension Specialist, Department of Plant Pathology makes aware the farmers regarding the identification of various diseases of basmati and appropriate control measures to be followed.
