This first domestic linkage is expected to pave the way for multiple upcoming domestic market connections and international exports, similar to last year’s success.
Building on last year’s milestone of exporting 120+ MT of mangoes to more than 11 countries globally, the new mango sell season has commenced on a promising note. Marking the first domestic market linkage of the 2026 season, 3 MT of premium-quality mangoes were dispatched from Dhenkanal, Odisha to Siliguri, West Bengal through Madanmohan FPC under the National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC).
This inaugural consignment reflects a significant improvement in farmer returns. The price realisation has increased from Rs 25/kg last year to Rs 45/kg this year, representing an 80 per cent increase in price realisation, which is almost double, translating into substantially higher income for farmers at the start of the season itself.
This milestone has been achieved under the Promotion and Stabilization of Farmer Producer Organizations (PSFPO) program, led by the Directorate of Horticulture under the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Empowerment (DA&FE). The program is implemented by Palladium Consulting India Pvt. Ltd., backed by the Gates Foundation, with support from Harsha Trust for this domestic market linkage. The initiative reflects the department’s continued efforts to strengthen farmer incomes and enable more structured and reliable market access.
The quality of mangoes in this consignment has been notably superior, aligning with market expectations and strengthening buyer confidence. The dispatch was carried out in the presence of exporters, Farmer Producer Organization (FPO) members, representatives from Palladium, and Harsha Trust.
As the season begins, this first domestic linkage is expected to pave the way for multiple upcoming domestic market connections and international exports, similar to last year’s success. With strong early momentum, the program is targeting to surpass last year’s achievements and cross 500+ MT of mango trades this season.
“We are getting better prices this time and are very hopeful for the coming weeks. We are thankful to the Department for their support and expect this mango sell season to be good for all of us,” said a farmer from Madanmohan FPC.
“With continued support from the Department of Horticulture, we are strengthening end-to-end market linkages for FPOs. This first domestic dispatch sets the tone for the season, and we aim to scale both domestic and export volumes significantly, ensuring better and more stable incomes for farmers”, said, Debrati Ghatak, Senior Manager, Palladium India.
This first successful dispatch signals a strong start to the mango sell season and reinforces the collective effort toward building a more resilient and market-driven ecosystem for farmers in Odisha.
