Sets new standard in transparent and traceable agriculture value chains
ITC Limited has become the first company in India to achieve the prestigious FSA (Farm Sustainability Assessment) 3.0 Silver benchmark for its wheat and paddy sourcing operations, marking a significant milestone in the country’s sustainable agriculture journey.
The recognition has been awarded under the globally acknowledged FSA 3.0 framework developed by the Sustainable Agriculture Initiative Platform (SAI Platform), a consortium of over 190 member organizations committed to advancing sustainability across global food supply chains.
The FSA framework is widely used by leading global food and agri companies to assess and validate on-farm sustainability across key parameters, including agronomic practices, natural resource stewardship, environmental protection, and labour and working conditions.
ITC’s achievement reflects the successful implementation of sustainable practices across a large and diverse farming ecosystem built through close collaboration with over 3,500 farmers and more than 70 Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) across Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, covering over 22,000 acres of farmland. By bringing fragmented smallholder farms under a single, transparent, and traceable sustainability framework, ITC has demonstrated how scale and sustainability can go hand in hand.
This milestone has been enabled by ITC’s Climate Smart Agriculture Programme, supported by its integrated digital platform, ITCMAARS, which has helped drive the adoption of improved farming practices, strengthen documentation and traceability, and enable real-time advisory and farmer engagement.
Beyond the certification, the achievement reinforces trust, transparency, and accountability across ITC’s agri value chains while opening up new opportunities for farmers to participate in differentiated, sustainability-linked markets, thereby enhancing long-term resilience and income potential.
This recognition underscores ITC’s continued commitment to building farmer-centric ecosystems, transparent and traceable supply chains, and scalable, credible sustainability models, positioning the company at the forefront of sustainable agriculture transformation in India.
