Flagship product “Dairy Green” to lead Crystal’s fodder portfolio across key fodder growing states
India faces severe and growing pressure on its natural resource base. The country accommodates approximately 18 per cent of the global human population and 15 per cent of the world’s livestock, yet possesses only 2.4 per cent of the world’s geographical area, 1.5 per cent of forest and pasture lands and 4.2 per cent of water resources. The nation’s principal fodder sources are crop residues, cultivated green fodder and output from common property resources such as forests, permanent pastures and grazing lands.
The primary obstacle to developing India’s livestock sector remains a persistent deficit in quality feed and fodder. Livestock currently relies heavily on unsustainable sourcing, with most nutritional requirements met by crop residues and by-products gathered from cultivated, uncultivated and common grazing lands. A planned, scientific, and economically viable feeding approach is therefore essential to meaningfully improve the productivity of milch animals and support rural livelihoods.
Focus States: India’s Fodder Heartland
Crystal Crop Protection’s “2026 Fodder Initiative” is anchored across four critical states that together account for a significant share of India’s fodder cultivation – Haryana, Punjab, Western Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan. These regions are dominated by the cultivation of crops such as sorghum (jowar), maize, bajra, beseem and lucerne – all vital to sustaining India’s large and growing livestock population.
Significant On-Ground Impact of “Dairy Green” – Crystal’s Flagship Fodder Seed
“Dairy Green” Crystal’s premier single-cut green fodder hybrid has been purpose-engineered to address the nutritional requirements of high-yielding dairy cattle. Developed through advanced plant breeding, “Dairy Green” delivers consistently high biomass yield, superior crude protein content and excellent palatability making it the preferred choice for dairy farmers.
Crystal to Offer Complete Fodder Seed Portfolio to Farmers in Kharif 2026
Beyond “Dairy Green”, Crystal will also offer India’s farmers a comprehensive range of next-generation fodder seed products to serve diverse agro-climatic needs.
These include:
“SX17” – a high-yielding sorghum-Sudan hybrid with robust stem, medium maturity and good re-growth
“SX17 Super” – an enhanced version of “SX17” with improved drought tolerance and higher biomass per cut
“SX21” – a late-maturing high-biomass variety ideal for single-cut large volume harvests
“Star” – an early maturing dual-purpose sorghum, used as both green fodder and grain fodder
Leadership Perspective
Satyender Singh, Chief Executive Officer – Seeds, Crystal Crop Protection, said:
“India’s livestock sector is at an inflection point. The challenge is no longer just about milk productivity – it begins at the farm gate, with the quality and availability of green fodder. At Crystal, we have invested over a decade in developing seed solutions that directly address this gap. “Dairy Green” represents our finest effort: a seed that consistently delivers more nutrition per acre, enabling dairy farmers to achieve higher milk yields while reducing their feed cost burden. Our expanded portfolio for Kharif 2026 ensures that India’s farmers have the right tools for every condition.”
Alignment with National Priorities
As a leading crop ecosystem player, Crystal Crop Protection is actively contributing to the Government of India’s National Livestock Mission (NLM), and its seed solutions directly align with the NLM’s objectives of increasing per-acre fodder productivity, improving nutritional quality of livestock feed and reducing dependency on unsustainable common-land grazing.
Its vision of the Green Fodder Revolution also mirrors national policy priorities: a structured transition from deficit-driven, residue-dependent livestock feeding to a system grounded in high-quality, scientifically developed green fodder crops.
Outlook for Kharif 2026
Satyender Singh, Chief Executive Officer – Seeds, Crystal Crop Protection, added:
“We expect our Kharif 2026 fodder seed programme to deliver measurably high productivity across farmer fields. With growing awareness amongst dairy farmers about the link between green fodder quality and milk yields, demand for scientifically developed fodder seeds is at an all-time high.”
On-Ground Engagement
As a leading player in the crop ecosystem, Crystal’s field teams continue to engage extensively with farmers and Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), all with the objective of driving transformation from the grassroots level.
