Bayer launches dual-action insecticide to strengthen flea beetle control in canola

Bayer Crop Science Canada has introduced Sivanto Energy, a new foliar insecticide positioned as a next-generation defence against flea beetles—one of the most damaging and persistent early-season threats to canola production.

The launch comes as Canadian canola growers face mounting pest pressure, tighter planting windows, and rising concerns around resistance management. Bayer is pitching Sivanto Energy as a flexible, high-performance addition to its canola protection portfolio, designed to deliver both speed and staying power at a critical stage of crop establishment.

At the core of Sivanto Energy is a dual-active formulation combining deltamethrin and flupyradifurone, bringing together two distinct modes of action. According to Bayer, the pairing delivers rapid knockdown of flea beetles alongside extended, systemic protection—helping safeguard young canola plants during their most vulnerable growth phases.

“This integrated, multiple active ingredient approach ensures comprehensive pest control while giving growers greater flexibility in how they manage their fields,” said Ashley Smith, SeedGrowth & Broadacre Insecticide Product Manager at Bayer. “It’s about empowering farmers with effective tools that protect yield potential and help them better manage time and operational complexity on the farm.”

Sivanto Energy combines Group 3 and Group 4D insecticides, a strategic mix Bayer says supports resistance management without compromising efficacy. The company reports that the product provides fast-acting control with systemic protection lasting up to four days—an important window for canola seedlings facing intense flea beetle feeding pressure.

For growers, Bayer frames the product as both a risk-management and productivity tool.

“With Sivanto Energy, farmers can have confidence that their canola fields are protected during a critical period,” said Bryan Bryson, Marketing Portfolio Lead at Bayer Crop Science Canada. “That peace of mind allows them to focus on other decisions that ultimately drive a successful harvest. This product represents the next generation of flea beetle protection.”

As pest dynamics evolve and resistance challenges intensify, Bayer’s launch underscores a broader shift in crop protection toward multi-mode solutions that balance performance, stewardship, and operational flexibility—key priorities in modern canola production systems.
