The collaboration will include policy advocacy and research and development (R&D) efforts to expand biogas usage nationwide.
The Indian Biogas Association (IBA) has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL) to advance the bioenergy and bio-hydrogen sectors in India. This strategic partnership will focus on establishing a joint knowledge centre, sharing technological and infrastructural resources, and organising training programs aimed at enhancing the biofuels industry. The collaboration will also include policy advocacy and research and development (R&D) efforts to expand biogas usage nationwide, according to a joint statement.
The collaboration aims to plan to engage with policymakers, industry leaders, and academic institutions to create a strong ecosystem supporting bioenergy. The MoU highlights the importance of training and capacity-building to support workforce development in this sector. Additionally, IOCL and IBA will work together to suggest policy incentives and collaborate with central and state governments for effective implementation.
IBA, India’s first professional biogas association, established in 2011 and revamped in 2015, has also partnered with the German Biogas Association to promote a sustainable and green energy future for India through increased use of biogas and biofuels.
