Swachhta Pakhwada activities combined workplace hygiene initiatives with outreach programmes on plastic pollution, waste management, and environmental responsibility across CMFRI centres nationwide
The ICAR–Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (ICAR–CMFRI) observed Swachhta Pakhwada from December 16 to 31, combining cleanliness drives with extensive awareness and community engagement activities. The campaign aimed at conveying the message that cleanliness is a shared social responsibility.
As part of the campaign, staff members undertook cleanliness drives along with awareness programmes on plastic pollution, environmental responsibility and waste management.
A farmers’ training programme was conducted, focusing on innovative food waste recycling technology using the black soldier fly larvae. Special awareness programmes were held for fishers, highlighting the importance of hygiene, clean surroundings and responsible resource use. Street plays were conducted to sensitise the public on cleanliness, waste management and environmental responsibility. School children were actively involved in the campaign through interactive sessions.
The campaign also promoted digitalisation through the implementation of e-office and better organisation of office records. Activities were also carried out at various regional centres of the institutes located across the country.
The activities also included segregation of biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste, removal of weeds and cleaning of open spaces, aimed at improving workplace hygiene and space optimisation
The initiative helped enhance workplace hygiene, optimise space and strengthen awareness on cleanliness and environmental responsibility.
