Sustainably harvested, globally sourced: India’s seafood sector goes big at World Food India 2025

The India International Seafood Show (IISS-2025), Asia’s premier seafood trade fair, will convene from September 25 to 28 at Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan, as a centerpiece of World Food India 2025, the Government of India’s flagship platform for food innovation and global partnerships.

The 24th edition of IISS will showcase the strength and resilience of India’s seafood sector, drawing participants from over 15 countries, including the United States, European Union, Vietnam, UAE, Germany, Belgium, Japan, and China. Organised by the Seafood Exporters Association of India (SEAI), the event will feature more than 260 stalls, technical sessions, and strategic roundtables, while a reverse buyer-seller meet hosted by the Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA) will directly connect Indian exporters with international buyers, reinforcing trade linkages and expanding market access.

As SEAI marks its golden jubilee, the event highlights India’s commitment to sustainably harvested and humanely sourced seafood, addressing critical challenges such as skill development, innovation, and responsible aquaculture. India’s seafood industry, led by shrimp exports, supplies nearly 40 percent of global demand, shipping 16.98 lakh tonnes valued at Rs 62,408 crore ($7.45 billion) in 2024-25, reflecting both resilience and strategic diversification in the face of global tariffs and rising production costs.

With an ambitious target of $15 billion in seafood exports by 2030, IISS-2025 underscores India’s trajectory as a global seafood powerhouse, providing a forum for international collaboration, value addition, and future-ready growth in the seafood value chain.
