SEDL signs MoU with Republic of Burundi

To establish 1000 TCD sugarcane processing plant

Spray Engineering Devices Ltd. (SEDL), a leading Indian clean-tech engineering company specializing in thermal heat recovery and biomass valorization, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Republic of Burundi to set up a modern, 1000 TCD (tonnes crushed per day) sugarcane processing plant in the East African nation.

Under the terms of the MoU, SEDL will bring its proprietary energy-efficient sugar processing and water-saving technologies to Burundi and the region. This includes assistance in providing high-yielding sugarcane varieties, hands-on training for local farmers in modern harvesting practices, and knowledge-sharing on sustainable agriculture.

Vivek Verma, Managing Director, SEDL said “This collaboration represents a shared commitment to advancing sustainable industrial development, strengthening local agriculture, and contributing to Burundi’s long-term economic growth,”.

The strategic partnership aims to jointly develop, construct, and operate a state-of-the-art sugar production facility that will not only support Burundi’s agricultural ambitions but also contribute to rural employment, energy security, and sustainable industrial development in the region. The plant is projected to produce approximately 100 tonnes of sugar per day, significantly enhancing Burundi’s self-sufficiency in sugar.

The agreement outlines responsibilities relating to investment, infrastructure development, technology transfer, and long-term operations, with both parties working closely with regional partners, financial institutions, and agricultural stakeholders to ensure effective implementation and community integration.
