SRF to set up advanced agrochemical and BOPP film plants as Q1 profits soar

In a resolute affirmation of industrial ambition and strategic foresight, SRF Ltd—a veritable doyen in India’s chemical and materials manufacturing firmament—has unveiled a formidable Rs 750-crore capital infusion towards the establishment of two avant-garde production units. The proposed ventures—a cutting-edge agrochemical intermediate plant in Dahej, Gujarat, and a high-capacity BOPP (Biaxially Oriented Polypropylene) film line in Indore, Madhya Pradesh—signal not merely an expansion of capacity, but a deepening entrenchment in sectors critical to national growth and global competitiveness.

The Rs 250-crore agrochemical installation, slated for completion within an ambitious 18-month horizon, will augment India’s domestic production of high-value crop protection intermediates—an imperative aligned with the broader objective of agricultural self-reliance. The facility’s annual output capacity of 12,000 tonnes is poised to address burgeoning demand across both domestic and export markets, potentially fortifying India’s stature in the global agri-input ecosystem.

Simultaneously, SRF’s Rs 490-crore foray into BOPP film production entails the commissioning of a 10.4-meter-wide Bruckner line accompanied by state-of-the-art metallising infrastructure—one of the most sophisticated configurations in the sector. Over a 24-month gestation period, this facility in Indore shall serve the twin imperatives of import substitution and high-end packaging innovation, positioning SRF as a preeminent supplier to both indigenous FMCG players and global marquees.

This audacious expansionist thrust dovetails with SRF’s robust financial performance in the first quarter of FY2025–26, wherein the conglomerate registered a stellar 71 per cent surge in consolidated net profit—clocking in at Rs 432.32 crore vis-à-vis Rs 252.22 crore in the corresponding quarter last year. Revenue from operations similarly ascended to Rs 3,818.62 crore, marking a 10 per cent year-on-year augmentation.

Not one to rest on its laurels, SRF continues to blaze a trail across an expansive industrial landscape encompassing fluorochemicals, specialty chemicals, performance films and foils, technical textiles, and coated fabrics. With a consolidated turnover exceeding Rs 14,358 crore ($1.7 billion), a workforce surpassing 9,000 individuals, and an international footprint extending to over 100 countries, the company has adroitly melded operational excellence with global aspiration. It has to date filed 494 patents and garnered the prestigious Deming Prize for its commitment to Total Quality Management—a testament to its relentless pursuit of precision and perfection.

In a geopolitical milieu characterised by fragmented supply chains and mounting protectionism, SRF’s latest investments represent more than infrastructural augmentation—they constitute a declaration of intent. An intent to innovate, indigenise and internationalise.

Indeed, as the company reaffirms its allegiance to technological ascendancy, sustainability imperatives, and shareholder value creation, it repositions itself not merely as a manufacturer of materials, but as a harbinger of India’s industrial renaissance.
