Assam achieves historic milestone: Meets full paddy procurement target for 2024-25

Assam has successfully achieved its full paddy procurement target for the fiscal year 2024-25, marking an unprecedented milestone in the state’s agricultural history. CM Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that as of June 8, the state procured 585,012.75 metric tonnes of paddy, nearing the set target of 585,500 metric tonnes.

This achievement, the first of its kind for Assam, underscores the significant strides made in boosting agricultural output and optimizing procurement processes. The procurement window remains open until June 30, and officials remain optimistic that the final tally will meet or exceed the target.

“This is a landmark achievement for Assam’s agricultural sector and a testament to the collective efforts of our farmers, state administration, and agricultural bodies,” said Chief Minister Sarma. “Meeting our procurement target signals a new chapter in Assam’s growth story and strengthens the confidence of farmers in government policies aimed at their welfare.”

The successful procurement drive reflects the effectiveness of recent agricultural reforms and targeted support programs implemented by the state government. These initiatives have streamlined procurement operations and enhanced farmer participation across the region.

With ongoing efforts to fully capitalize on the remaining procurement period, Assam is poised to set a higher benchmark for future agricultural seasons, paving the way for sustained growth and prosperity in the sector.
