ICAR-CIBA launches initiatives in aquaculture for SC-ST tribes in TN

Discussions were held on brackishwater aquaculture technologies

The ICAR-Central Institute of Brackishwater Aquaculture, Chennai launched various interventions in Kattur and Thoniveru Villages for the Coastal Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe families.

 

In his address, Dr KP Jithendran, Director, ICAR-CIBA, Chennai highlighted the main objectives for implementing the Scheduled Caste Special Programmes (SC-SP) and STC/TSP. He stated about the integration of the brackishwater aquaculture technologies, viz, two-tier milkfish farming in pond and pens, seabass nursery rearing in hapas, pen and low volume floating cages, crab farming in pen and boxes and fish food sales unit with the agro-based technologies like poultry farming, vegetable gardening and societal developments like youths and children study centre for the overall development of the coastal SC and ST families under the schemes.

 

Dr Jithendran handed over the farm inputs and units to the SC and ST beneficiaries and their children. About 110 participants including the aqua farmers and fishers, tribals, village leaders, officials and staff members of ICAR-CIBA participated in the programme.
