ICAR conducts virtual workshop on ’Climate Resilient Agriculture’

13 KVKs from Maharashtra and Gujarat examines resilient agriculture practices

The Indian Council of Agriculture Research, ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Pune, Maharashtra conducted a one-day ‘Virtual Annual Zonal Review Workshop’ of 13 National Innovations on Climate Resilient Agriculture (NICRA) Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) of Maharashtra and Gujarat on August 7, 2020. The workshop was jointly organized in collaboration with the ICAR-Central Research Institute for Dryland Agriculture, Hyderabad and Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Jalna – I, Maharashtra.

Dr Ashok Dhawan, Vice-Chancellor, Vasantrao Naik Marathwada Krishi Vidyapeeth, Parbhani spoke on the need to upscale the proven technologies demonstrated under the National Innovations on Climate Resilient Agriculture (NICRA) Project. He emphasized on the need to integrate resource conservation with crop diversification for income generating technologies.

Focus on diffusing the well-tested climate resilient technologies in other areas was exhorted by Dr M C Varshneya, Former Vice-Chancellor, Anand Agricultural University, Anand and Kamdhenu University, Gandhinagar, Gujarat and ZMC Chairman, West Zone. He suggested analyzing the changes in climate change data during the last five years and quantifying the impact of resilient practices.

‘Women Empowerment’ as an additional module in the TDC-NICRA was highlighted by Vijay Borade, Trustee, MSSM and Project Director, KVK, Jalna – I, Maharashtra. He urged to include sericulture, bamboo, aromatic and medicinal grasses as climate resilient crops under the NICRA and also to focus on processing and value-addition.
