Tomar called for more efforts towards adequate availability of water and fodder in the country

Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Narendra Singh Tomar inaugurated the seed processing and storage facility at the Indian Grassland and Grassland Research Institute, Jhansi, an institution under the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). A women’s farmers’ conference was also organised on this occasion.

On this occasion, Dr Himanshu Pathak, Director General of ICAR, Rani Lakshmi Bai Central Agricultural University Chancellor, Jhansi, Dr Panjab Singh and Dr A.K. Singh Vice-Chancellor were present. Tomar also observed the techniques and reviewed activities of the University with Dr Amresh Chandra, Director of the Indian Grassland and Grassland Research Institute. Apart from the institute headquarters, 3 units of this type of seed processor have been installed at the regional research centres located at Dharwad and Srinagar, which the Ministry of Agriculture has funded for Rs 3.7 crore. During the Women’s Farmers Conference, agricultural equipment worth Rs 50 lakhs were distributed to the beneficiary women farmers under the Scheduled Caste sub-project run at the institute/centres.

Tomar appreciated the efforts of the institute for the empowerment of farmers and women farmers through the Scheduled Caste sub-Project and praised the scientists of the institute for the development of more than 300 fodder crop varieties and various techniques developed by the institute. He emphasised taking the institute’s different research to the maximum number of farmers. Mentioning the various welfare schemes being run by the Government of India for the benefit of farmers, Tomar called for more efforts towards adequate availability of water and fodder in the country.

The Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Narendra Singh Tomar has said that the Government of India wants to realise the vision of all-round and balanced development in the country. Tomar said that it is the belief of Prime Minister Narendra Modi that if the strength of the Northeast will increase, then the country’s strength will consolidate and with this strength the nation will move forward.

Further, Tomar launched the Honey Testing Laboratory at Dimapur, Nagaland, which will help beekeepers and processors for testing the honey produced. He also visited the Bamboo Museum and Organic AC Market. During these events, the Agriculture Minister of Nagaland G Kaito, Chief Secretary J Alam, Central Horticulture Commissioner Prabhat Kumar, other senior officers and distinguished people, farmers and scientists were present.

“The Northeast Region cannot be overlooked when it comes to all-round development. Therefore, through the schemes-programmes, funding and institutions of the government, it is our constant endeavour that the northeastern region should not depend on anyone, but should stand on its own feet and be able to contribute its fullest to the country’s development.” said Tomar, at an event organised at the North-East Agri Expo, Chumaokedlma.

Union Minister of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, Narendra Singh Tomar has launched Animal Vaccine and other Diagnostic Kits developed by the ICAR-National Research Centre on Equines, Hisar, Haryana on June 9, 2022.

The Ancovax Vaccine on Equines is an inactivated SARS-CoV-2 Delta (COVID-19) Vaccine for Animals. The immunity induced by Ancovax neutralises both Delta and Omicron Variants of SARS-CoV-2. The Vaccine contains inactivated SARS-CoV-2 (Delta) antigen with Alhydrogel as an adjuvant. It is safe for dogs, lions, leopards, mice and rabbits.

“The Council’s scientists’ unparalleled contributions have made the country succeed not only in essential crops’ production; but, in the various fields of agricultural and allied sciences as well at the global level”, said Tomar, after launching the vaccine through video conferencing. “It is due to the untiring contributions of Scientists that the country stands self-reliant in developing its own Vaccines more rather than importing. This is really a big achievement”, he added.

The diagnostic kits launched today include CAN-CoV-2 ELISA Kit. It is a sensitive and specific nucleocapsid protein based indirect ELISA Kit for antibody detection against SARS-CoV-2 in Canines. There are no laboratory animals required for the preparation of the antigens. The Kit is made in India and a patent has been filed for the same. No other comparable kits for detection of antibodies in Canines are available in the market.

The visiting Minister of Agriculture and Livestock Development of Nepal, Mahendra Rai Yadav, held a meeting with the Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Narendra Singh Tomar on June 8, 2022. During the meeting, Tomar assured all possible cooperation from India’s side to Nepal. Also, the two countries agreed to expeditiously finalise a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for agricultural cooperation so that rapid progress can be made on various bilateral agricultural issues.

Tomar spoke of strengthening cooperation with Nepal in all fields including agriculture and informed that India has made great progress in the field of research and development in agriculture and allied sectors. Tomar said that Nepal can learn from the Indian agricultural system, whenever required.

The Nepalese Minister requested the agriculture minister Tomar to extend cooperation in the field of agriculture technology, Murrah buffalo breed, resolution of quarantine issues at border points and supply of animal vaccines etc. Tomar assured the Nepal delegation of early resolution of the issues raised by them.

Global germplasm will be used in the Indian breeding programmes

The Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Narendra Singh Tomar in Lok Sabha on March 15, 2022, has announced that the International Centre for Agricultural Research in Dry Areas (ICARDA) has enabled access to global germplasm for use in the Indian breeding programmes. Ten high yielding varieties of Lentil, Chickpea and Barley have been released by ICARDA along with ICAR for commercial cultivation in India during the last three years. Of these, six were released in 2019, three in 2020 and one in 2021.

The ICARDA is engaged in the research and development of improved varieties of food crops (Wheat and Barley) and nutritionally rich pulses. Besides, ICARDA also works on different natural management systems like cropping systems, water productivity modelling, conservation agriculture technology, fodder cactus, etc. in association with the ICAR institutions, the State/Central Agricultural Universities and the Central and State Departments.

A mobile knowledge centre, ‘Shashwat Bharat Krushi Rath’ has been launched in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh. The mobile centre is conceptualised to inform farmers about globally acclaimed sustainable, natural, chemical-free farming methods, holistic development of soil, appropriate market linkages, post-harvest technologies, Government schemes, and policies related to agriculture and allied businesses/start-ups.

The mobile centre was inaugurated by Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar, Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, on February 13, 2020 in Gwalior.

The Centre helps to propagate the critically endangered plant and tree species in the country.

Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar has inaugurated “Heartfulness Tree Conservation Centre”, a modern tissue culture laboratory at Kanha Shanti Vanam in Nandigama mandal of Rangareddy district. Launched on December 28, 2021, the laboratory helps to propagate the critically endangered plant and tree species in the country.

While Heartfulness Institute aims at growing the plantlets at the Ashram, a good share will also be given off across the country to the forestry department, NGOs, and other plantation bodies that are involved with afforestation in India.

The Heartfulness Tree Conservation Centre has a 5,000 sq ft facility with 10,000 cleanroom technology, 15,00,000 annual sapling production capacity with the finest equipment and infrastructure with the tissue culture processes being overseen by a team of experts from India and Israel with more experts joining the team in the next three months.

At least five endangered varieties are propagated at the rate of 1.5-2 lakh saplings per year per variety by the Heartfulness Tree Conservation Centre. The raw material sources are obtained from native locations of the endangered species with the help of the Forest Department.

The National Mission on Edible Oil- Oil Palm Business Summit for states other than North Eastern States has been inaugurated by the Union Minister of Agriculture Narendra Singh Tomar, in Hyderabad on December 28, 2021. Aiming to give wide spread information on newly launched centrally sponsored scheme on edible oils, the Government is organising business summits across the country. This is the second such summit of the Mission, the first was held in Guwahati for North Eastern states in early October this year.

Addressing the Business Summit, the Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar assured all the state governments that there will be no shortage of resources for the successful implementation of the National Mission on Edible Oil – Oil Palm. Tomar said that under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi, the Government wants to make India self-reliant in the field of palm oil.

Appreciating the efforts made by the Government of Telangana to increase palm oil production, Tomar said that he sees Telangana as an emerging leader in oil palm production.

Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Kailash Choudhary said “At present, we have to import edible oil. Today’s business summit will prove to be important to find a solution to this import.” Expressing his confidence in Mission, he said that with the help of scientists’ research, farmers’ hard work and the government’s support, this mission will achieve its target and will make a significant contribution in making India self-reliant. In order to boost the edible oils’ production, remunerative prices and assured procurement of oilseed crops is being done by the Government, he added.

The Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar, during the release of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for drone application in Agriculture, has said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi all policies since 2014 are aimed at doubling farmer’s income by 2022. He said that the formation of Farmer Producer Organisation (FPOs) and the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund (AIF) will bring about a revolution in the lives of small farmers.

The Minister further, informed that the drones were used for the first time in warding off the locust attacks in various states of the country. He said that the government is making continuous efforts to infuse new technologies in agriculture so as to provide sustainable solution in context of enhancing the productivity as well as efficiency of the agriculture sector.

Considering the unique advantages of Drone technologies in agriculture, the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, (Department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare) in consultation with all the stakeholders of this sector, has brought out Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for use of drones in pesticide and nutrient application that provides concise instructions for effective and safe operations of drones.

During the release of SOPs event in the Agriculture Ministry, Secretary Agriculture Sanjay Agarwal delivered an address on advantages of drone technologies. Others who witnessed the event were Minister of State for Agriculture Kailash Choudhary and Shobha Karandlaje.
