The Pyroxasulfone market is worth over 450 crore in India, and BAL plans to achieve 300-350 crore of the Proxysulfone market in the next three years

Best Agrolife Ltd. (BAL), announced that it has inked an agreement with Syngenta for the marketing of Pyroxosulfone 85 per cent WG herbicide under the brand name Movondo.

Pyroxasulfone is a pre-emergence herbicide for wheat, corn, and soybean that ensures increased yields while offering outstanding crop safety by eliminating weeds that pose a threat to these crops. It is more effective against broadleaf weeds and requires fewer applications than other commercial herbicides. Pyroxasulfone 85 per cent WG controls the primary troublesome weed in wheat, Phalaris minor.

Syngenta is a global leader in crop protection and seeds, with a significant global share of the herbicide and commercial seed markets. This agreement will help both companies maximise the value of the new herbicide and efficiently establish a market for the product. The Pyroxasulfone market is worth over 450 crore, and BAL plans to achieve 300-350 crore of the Proxysulfone market in the next three years.

Previously, India imported Pyroxasulfone from foreign nations, but after gaining registration for the local manufacturing of Pyroxasulfone 85 per cent WG. BAL has become the first Indian agrochemical business to manufacture Pyroxasulfone 85 per cent WG locally. Seedlings India Pvt. Ltd., one of the wholly owned subsidiaries of BAL, will produce it under the Indian government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative.  What truly distinguishes this deal as a groundbreaking development, showcasing the substantial influence of the ‘Make In India’ initiative on the global stage, is the unprecedented reversal of the conventional supply chain dynamics. Prior to this, multinational corporations had typically supplied key chemical compounds to Indian agrochemical companies. However, this deal marks a pivotal shift, as it signifies the first instance of Indian agrochemical companies taking the lead by exporting these molecules to their multinational counterparts.

BAL to become the first Indian agrochemical company to manufacture Cyhalofop-butyl, a herbicide that controls grass weed growth in rice crops

Best Agrolife Limited (BAL) has informed that it has received the registration for the indigenous manufacturing of Cyhalofop-butyl u/s 9(3) by the Central Insecticides Board & Registration Committee. Cyhalofop Butyl is a post-emergence herbicide that controls grass weeds’ growth in rice crops. Vimal Alawadhi, MD, Best Agrolife Ltd (BAL), said, “India is the second largest producer of rice, and it is cultivated on about 44 million hectares in our country. However, rice grain production in India suffers a yearly loss of more than 15 million tonnes due to weeds competition, mainly grassy weeds.”

He explained further, “A post-emergence, herbicide Cyhalofop-butyl, is used for controlling weeds in rice plantations. These herbicides stop weed growth immediately, thus minimising crop losses and facilitating high production.”

With Cyhalofop-butyl, the organisation also announced that they had received the registration for the indigenous manufacturing of Propaquizafop Technical, another crucial post-emergence herbicide. Such indigenous manufacturing of herbicides can help rice production in India to a large extent by minimising losses. The estimated market size of Propaquizafop is Rs 350 Cr in India, and the global Cyhalofop-butyl market is set to reach $132.48 million in the coming years, as per the market research.

Vimal Alawadhi concluded, “We received many important registrations and patents in the previous year, and the new year has begun on an excellent note as well. Our company achieved exponential growth in the last quarter, and we are scaling up our efforts and strategies to improve our performance further. A key element in this strategy is a continuously evolving product line. It helps us remain competitive and maintain our annual growth rate and EBITDA, which at present is at 30 percent and 20 percent, respectively.”

BAL, as a company, manufactures technical grade herbicides as well as the formulation of the molecules, which in turn helps in curtailing the surge in imports primarily from China which has made Indian manufacturing non-viable to a greater extent till now. These registrations have immense potential for value addition in Indian agriculture. They also work in line with the government policy of “Atmanirbhar Bharat” and “Make in India” mission.

BAL to become the first Indian agrochemical

Central Insecticides Board & Registration Committee grants approval to BAL in the 443 rd meeting.

Best Agrolife Limited, a leading player in the Indian agrochemical industry, has been granted registration for the indigenous manufacturing of Propaquizafop u/s 9(3) by Central Insecticides Board & Registration Committee in the 443 rd meeting. With this Best Agrolife Limited (BAL) will become the first Indian agrochemical company to manufacture Propaquizafop Technical in India.

Propaquizafop is a herbicide used for the post-emergence control of a wide range of annual and perennial grasses in various broadleaf crops such as soybean, cotton, pulses, sunflower, other field crops, vegetables, fruit trees, vineyards, sugarbeet, oilseed rape, and forestry. As a selective and systemic herbicide, it controls weeds in all the stages of their development. Environment-friendly and safe to beneficial insects and mammals Propaquizafop is quickly absorbed by the leaves and translocated from the foliage to the growing points of the leaves and roots of the sprayed weeds.

“BAL has kept the ball of innovation and progress rolling this year and it is all because of our unwavering focus on research & development. Other than introducing five new products namely Axeman, Ronfen (patented ternary insecticide), Reveal Tombo and Warden BAL also became the first Indian agrochemical company to manufacture CTPR (market size of more than Rs 2800 crore) technical indigenously by launching Citigen and Vistara. We also received the patent for the first-of-its-kind fungicidal composition of Cyazofamid, Dimethomorph, and Difenoconazole (Market Size Rs 350 crore) and registration for the indigenous manufacturing of Pyroxasulfone technical (Market Size Rs 450 Crore),” said Vimal Alawadhi, MD BAL.

“Propaquizafop herbicide is of utmost importance for the Indian agricultural community as it effectively controls weeds in a number of broad-leaf crops. With Rs 350 Cr. of the market size in India, Propaquizafop Technical is a crucial addition to the above list of registrations with a huge market size that BAL received this year, and we will focus on utilising this opportunity to the maximum. Other than removing our import dependency for Propaquizafop Technical we will also focus on developing new Propaquizafop combination products through research and development and getting them patented. Since Propaquizafop is also popular in the global herbicide market we will surely look forward to its export aspect in the future,” he added further while commenting on this new development.

Only allowed for pest control operators

The Indian government has restricted the use of the chemical Glyphosate, via an official order on October 25. The use of Glyphosate poses a risk to the health and lives of humans and animals alike. The government has officially restricted the use of Glyphosate. The herbicide, glyphosate has been registered for use in India under the Insecticides Act of 1968 for weed control only in tea plantations, but is illegally being used for weed removal across a number of food and non-food crop fields and premises of houses, institutions as well as to remove the growth of vegetation everywhere.
From now Glyphosate only can be used for pest control operators (PCO). PCOs are licensed to use deadly chemicals for treating pests such as rodents. As part of the implementation of the order, the government asked the holders of the registration certificates to return the certificates for further process, and also says if any person fails to return the registration certificates within three months; appropriate action will be taken under the Insecticides Act of 1968. The order also says that each state government has to look into this and shall take all such steps under the provisions of the said Act and the rules framed there under, as it considers necessary, for executing this order in the State.
Glyphosate, a synthetic herbicide patented in 1974 by the Monsanto Company and now manufactured and sold by many companies in hundreds of products, has been associated with cancer and other health concerns. The toxic chemical has been banned or severely restricted in more than 35 countries of which are Sri Lanka, Netherlands, France, Colombia, Canada, Israel, and Argentina.

A supplier of an ingredient for its widely used herbicide glyphosate has run into technical problems

Bayer has recently informed that a supplier of an ingredient for its widely used herbicide glyphosate has run into technical problems. In a statement Bayer’s global head of active ingredient manufacturing Udo Schneider said that the company’s ability to supply its customer with glyphosate or glyphosate-based products as per agreements could be impacted.

Glyphosate is the active ingredient in Bayer brands such as Roundup and RangerPro.

“Our supplier is on track to restore production, and we have sourced additional materials and made other mitigation efforts to help best manage this situation,” Bayer spokesperson commented in a statement.

In a letter, Bayer has alerted industrial customers using glyphosate to the supply issue, declaring force majeure, which typically suspends a supplier’s contractual liabilities in the wake of disruptions beyond its control.
