Cooperative ambitions realized: Sabar Dairy Plant poised to transform Northern India’s dairy landscape

In a ceremonious unveiling befitting the magnitude of the occasion, Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the newly constructed Sabar Dairy plant in Rohtak, Haryana, on Friday, a development emblematic of India’s resurgent cooperative ethos. Erected at an investment of Rs 325 crore, this avant-garde facility, replete with cutting-edge machinery, is poised to engender employment opportunities—both direct and ancillary—for nearly a thousand individuals, thereby reinforcing the symbiotic nexus between industrial growth and rural livelihood enhancement.

Strategically situated within the Industrial Model Township of Rohtak, the Sabar Dairy plant now commands the distinction of being India’s preeminent production hub for curd, buttermilk, and yogurt. Its prodigious daily output—150 metric tonnes of curd, 3 lakh litres of buttermilk, 10 lakh litres of yogurt, and 10 metric tonnes of confectionery—epitomizes a commitment to satiating the burgeoning demand for high-quality dairy produce while exemplifying operational excellence at scale.

Headquartered in Gujarat, the Sabarkantha District Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union, affectionately known as Sabar Dairy, has long been venerated for its cooperative paradigm and unwavering dedication to augmenting farmers’ remunerative capacities. The Rohtak facility represents a deliberate and strategic foray into northern India, harnessing technological sophistication to ensure consistent quality, expand production horizons, and fortify rural economies.

Addressing the gathering, Shah accentuated the transformative potential of modern cooperative infrastructure in invigorating India’s dairy sector. He underscored the government’s commitment to employment generation, farmer welfare, and the cultivation of streamlined, resilient supply chains. With this landmark facility now operational, Sabar Dairy is well-positioned to consolidate the cooperative model, guarantee dependable dairy production, and contribute substantively to the wider trajectory of India’s food processing and agribusiness industries.
