Milma announces aggressive measures to boost milk production and strengthen dairy value chain

Kerala Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (KCMMF), popularly known by its brand Milma, has unveiled a comprehensive strategy to increase milk production, empower member milk societies, and sharpen the competitive positioning of its dairy products.

The decisions were ratified at the Federation’s 52nd Annual General Body Meeting on Tuesday, which also approved a revenue budget of Rs 597.97 crore and a capital budget of Rs 67.33 crore for the upcoming year.

“Despite a 35 per cent decline in cattle population reported in the latest state cattle survey, Milma’s procurement across its three regional unions rose 13.91 per cent between April and August 2025, demonstrating the resilience of Kerala’s dairy ecosystem,” said K. S. Mani, Chairperson, KCMMF, who presided over the AGM.

Milma’s roadmap is built on three key pillars. First, it seeks to enhance productivity by improving milk yield per animal through farmer training programs and adoption of modern technologies. Second, the Federation will continue to prioritize farmer welfare by maintaining subsidies, price support, and a suite of welfare schemes designed to protect farmer incomes and improve rural livelihoods. Third, Milma is upgrading its processing facilities and accelerating new product innovation to sharpen its competitive edge in an increasingly crowded dairy market.

“Milma will continue to support our farmers while delivering uncompromised quality to our customers. This dual commitment – to producers and consumers – remains at the heart of our cooperative philosophy,” Mani emphasized.

Milma’s renewed focus comes at a time when India’s dairy sector is navigating rising feed costs, shifting consumer preferences, and competitive pressure from private brands. The Federation’s strategy aims to future-proof Kerala’s dairy sector, ensuring stable procurement and a robust supply chain for the state’s 3,500-plus primary milk societies.
